Specific Strength at BMD

This afternoon we worked on our specific upper body strength. 5 km single stick, 5 km double pole, repeat, then a warm down. It was a beautiful calm day and since we were at Ball Mtn Dam, we only saw 2 cars.
Usually peak folliage comes in early October, but with the wind and the rain that is expected tomorrow (2-4"), we might have seen the best of it today.

Hallie and Cam during their 2nd 5 km single stick.
While everyone else was getting in their specific strength endurance workout, Skyler had a sprint workout. He started with our BMD double pole test as a prelim and then skied 3 longer "heats". Great news...he set a PR in the double pole test (2:24) and learned some good things during his heats.
Young guns.
Working it.
The girls on their warm down.
Nice day eh?
Real nice, boys, real nice.
At the end of the day, the group tried a "flying wedge". It didn't really work...the poles were in danger and thankfully they pulled up/out to save the equipment.

Bounding, Tubbing and Big News for Alums

We have a nice 2 km loop on campus that rolls down for about 1 km and then has a good climb that runs into a flat rolling section. Today we ran the loop 4 times and bounded the hills. The goal was to go L2 on the downhill and L3 or L4 on the uphill and across the flat. It was a tough workout, but the group looked strong.
A bunch of the team followed up the workout with a little contrast bathing in our gym. See if you can guess which is the hot tub and which is the cold tub from the pictures below.

The hot and cold tubs after the workout were nice, but the big news of the day is that Tyne Pike-Sprenger and Dave Rothman got engaged. Congratulations to them both!

Listen To Your Body

We are into our 4th week of school. The team is doing well, training hard and staying very busy with classes and homework. Yesterday we had a tough double day and today it warmed up for our ski at BMD.
Almost everyone felt exhausted. Maybe it was the heat, maybe it was accumulated fatigue. Regardless, sometimes it's better to listen to your body instead of working on being tough. We cut the skate ski down to 1:15 and worked on skiing relaxed. Hopefully the easy day will help everyone feel good for tomorrow.

Chasing Runners and Celebrating at Tylers

Here are a bunch of pictures from our running race in Brattleboro this afternoon.
It was a beautiful day and there was good competition. Thanks to Brattleboro for hosting a great event!

The boys start. This was a good race with the top runners from Southern VT all squaring off on the tough Brattleboro course. New course records were set by Jacob Ellis from Brattleboro and Mary Kate Cirelli (one of our summer Elite team skiers) from Rutland. Congratulations to both of them!
Our runners did quite well. Bridger and Paddy led our boys placing 2nd and 3rd, while the girls won the team event with Heather in 4th, Rachel in 5th, Issy in 6th, Cam in 7th and Hallie in 8th.
Paddy and Bridger make their move and pass the 2nd place runner.

After the race we all went 100 yards down the road to the Tyler house for a delicious dinner. Thank you Carmen and Kyle!
